When Covid started, I was in the US for four months as an au pair. I had plans to go visit my family in Brazil in August, but I had to cancel everything because by then the airports were closed. It was very hard to be here alone while my family was in Brazil.
I used to go to sleep, worried something would happen overnight and I wouldn’t be there to help them. The au pair program is very lonely, but with Covid it was even more so.
Thankfully nothing happened to my family in Brazil or to my host family here in the US, but I wasn’t able to do everything I planned to do. In the two years I spent as an au pair because of everything that was happening.
But it was quite an experience by itself.
