When the COVID-19 pandemic initially hit, I was a freshman in college at the University of Colorado. And we were sent home in March of 2020, and I was actually grateful when that happened, I suppose, to most people, because my grades were slipping. And once we transitioned to classes on Zoom, professors with the unfamiliarity of it and all the magnitude of people’s personal situations, professors were much more forgiving on grades, and I was able to take that as an opportunity to get my grades up.
I feel great shame in that today because it wasn’t until later on when my girlfriend’s grandfather died and my own grandfather was hospitalized both due to COVID that I realized the true magnitude of the situation, and that it wasn’t just a fluffy blessing for me, but a great world tragedy.
